It’s been a bit of a bummer of a week for a good chunk of the rockies and the west, with Colorado’s snowpack sitting well below average for this time of year and resorts opening with almost completely manmade snow. We’re not expecting much snow across the west through the earlier portions of this week, either (11/13-11/17). But, with some patience often comes some great rewards.
Colorado’s favorite ski mountain weather Meteorologist Chris Tomer has a bit of good news for those of us eager to see a bit of snowfall before Thanksgiving. The 17th through the 21st, specifically, may contain some decent totals in several mountain towns across the west. Take a look at Tomer’s forecast below:
“Failed CA snow, grease the skids, two lows 11/18-11/22 with possibly significant snowfall for PNW, ID, MT, WY, UT, CO.” – Chris Tomer
Potential Snow Totals
A couple of specific locations worth highlighting in writing. First of all, since our friends north of the border deserve some attention, a few Canadian resorts may see a bit of snowfall leading up to the bigger storm totals late this week and early next week. Between November 12th and 16th, Whistler could see around 7″ of snowfall (~17.8cm), while Revelstoke could see around 6″ (~15.25cm).
The bigger storm totals are set to occur between the 17th and the 21st, with Mount Bachelor possibly receiving up to 49″ of snowfall and Timberline receiving around 38″. In Idaho, Brundage is looking at about 19″ and Grand Targhee, on the other side of the state, hoping for about 23″.
Colorado skiers will be quite pleased to hear that most mountains are expected to see a foot, if not more. Wolf Creek will likely be the big winner, hoping to receive 18″, while Snowmass and Vail are looking at 16″ and 15″ respectively. 13″ and 14″ snow totals are expected at a majority of the other resorts throughout the state.
