Cranmore Mountain Resort in New Hampshire introduced the next phase of their base village expansion, as they announced a new base lodge and condominium development that is scheduled to be partially open by the 2022-2023 season. The building will house four floors: the first two will be devoted to base lodge amenities, and the top levels will be residential condominiums. The base lodge area will feature a private locker room for residents, public lockers, restrooms, a ski gear store, a food pavilion, an indoor seating space, a coffee shop, and a bar with a slopeside outdoor deck. It sounds like this will replace their current base lodge setup.
The top two levels will be a mix of two to three-bedroom condos, along with one four-bedroom property. All condominiums will be two floors. The highlights of these condos outside of the massive rooms and bathrooms will be the floor-to-ceiling windows that either give residents a view of Cranmore’s North Slope or views of Cranmore’s courtyard. This section will be known as the Kearsarge Brook II Condominiums. The first phase of this base village development, the Kearsarge Brook Condominiums, was completed a couple of years ago. An expansion to this building is in construction.
The Fairbanks Lodge will be developed in partnership with designer Bull Stockwell Allen, who helped design lodges at Stowe, Bretton Woods, and Copper Mountain. The first level of the day lodge will open at the start of the 22-23, the second level at the beginning of the 23-24 season, and the condominiums will start allowing residents to move in during the summer of 2023.
Cranmore has one of the most distinguished histories of all resorts in the New England ski industry. The resort opened during the 1937-38 season with the addition of the rope tow. In the winter of 1938-39 they opened the Skimobile, an iconic car-based lift climbed up on a wooden trestle. It lasted fifty years on the mountain and was retired after the 1989-90 season. In spite of being removed, the lift is still revered in the skiing community.
With most of Cranmore’s terrain being beginner or intermediate, they have doubled down on being one of the most family-friendly options in the White Mountains. Since 2010, when the Fairbanks Groups purchased the resort, $25 million dollars have been invested into the resort. Their first investment was to add three new Dopplemeyer chairlifts to increase capacity. They have invested heavily in their summer operations, constructing a mountain coaster, giant swing attraction, zipline ride(Soaring Eagle), and mountain biking trails. The base area village is their latest project and will feature around one hundred condominiums when completed. The project is pending, as it is waiting for approval from New Hampshire’s Attorney Generals Office.
