A few weeks ago, an innovative ski goggle company was featured on ABC’s Shark Tank.
Rekkie is a stylish pair of goggles that feature an immersive heads-up display, which allows you to track your speed & altitude, track friends, control music, answer calls, and more. On the latest episode of Shark Tank, this product was featured as one of the pitches to the sharks.
Here’s a SparkNotes summary of what happened: After the presentation, multiple sharks were interested in investing. Kevin O’Leary, also known as Mr. Wonderful, offered $300k for 20% but also wanted twenty cents of every dollar of income made by the company. Barbara Cochran initially gave an offer but dropped out after getting an inconclusive answer about when ski maps would be added. Mark Cuban gave an offer of $300,000 for 15%. The folks at Rekkie countered with 12.5% and explained that they are planning to expand the product into the military and law enforcement industries. Mark accepted this counteroffer despite not being a skier. Mr. Wonderful, who didn’t get a response on his stingy offer, looked pissed.
Ski products are nothing new to the Tank, as products like Chubby Buttons, mountainFlow Eco-Wax, Ski-Z, and ODR Skis have been featured on the show. If you’re looking to watch the pitch, the episode is now streaming on Hulu.
Last season, I got to try these Rekkie goggles out, and I am a big fan of them. We’ll have a product review of these coming up in the future.
