Could Big Sky soon be home to a backcountry ski resort? The folks over at National Parks Realty are selling 48.5 acres of land in Big Sky for $13.999 million. The price point is pretty extreme, but it begins to make sense when you realize its location. The land is described as “unspoiled terrain encompass mountain, meadow, and trout-filled streams among the base of the Spanish Peaks.”
It’s ten to fifteen minutes away from Big Sky Resort, is nearby to Custer-Gallatin National Forest and the Lee Metcalf Wilderness Area, and it’s only an hour away from the West Gate of Yellowstone National Park. There’s also the nearby Yellowstone Club, which you can probably afford to be a part of if you shell out $14 million for this land.
For hikers and skiers, it’s right next to the Beehive Basin Trail, which was named by Backpacker Magazine as one of the best day hikes in the United States and has some great backcountry skiing terrain.
Michael Anderson, who is one of the two listing agents, described the potential uses for the property to Forbes contributor Mary Forgione.
“The first, a high-net-worth individual or celebrity wanting to build a large home with extreme privacy and a piece of land large enough to leave a legacy. [There’s also an opportunity for] a developer who will create lots for future luxury home sites or perhaps the next Big Sky boutique back-country resort.”
To sweeten the deal for a potential backcountry ski resort, extensive land, and ski resort development research documents are included in the purchase. They believe that the private backcountry ski resort could include cabins and a lodge.
