“We’re a gateway drug for this outdoor experience”
This is a really cool operation I literally just stumbled upon up in Squamish. Looks to be a single gondola that is mostly geared towards families looking for an incredible easy access BC mountain experience outside of a traditional ski resort setting. Skiing is allowed but there are some major warnings because this place does not operate like the kind of ski resort you are used to. They make that abundantly clear on the ski touring information page on their website.
Please be aware that this terrain is in the backcountry and is not patrolled by anyone from Sea to Sky Gondola. As requested by local Search and Rescue Services, the Sea to Sky Gondola has adopted a policy in which skis and snowboards will not be loaded on the gondola when Avalanche Canada deems the avalanche risk in the ‘Sea to Sky’ zone as ‘high’ or ‘extreme’.

The terrain around and on Sky Pilot Mountain, Co Pilot, Skyline Ridge and Goat Ridge is NOT for the beginner or inexperienced ski tourer. This is big terrain, complex in nature with lots of steeps, alpine bowls, first growth forests, pillow lines, extreme couloirs and all the goodies AND the associated risks you would expect to find in a complex alpine terrain environment. The Shannon Creek watershed offers over 1300 hectares (+3000 acres) of new terrain. With up to 1100m of vertical and four alpine bowls, there is no shortage of terrain to explore.
