There are few better ways to ruin a day on the mountain quite like being way too cold. When you don’t have enough layers and the temperatures are frigid, the only thing you can really do is head into the lodge for some winter cocktails or hot chocolate.. You can fight through it, sure, but you won’t be happy. Eventually both movement and thought become difficult, and it can straight up be dangerous (see: hypothermia and frost bite).
That’s where Sailwind‘s Winter Defenders heated jacket hopes to come onto the scene. To be clear, this is not a review, we have not tried this product, but it seems pretty cool. According to the product’s Kickstarter, which has raised a total of $61,368 as of writing, the Winter Defenders is waterproof and windproof, but that’s not really what anyone is here for.
The Winter Defenders boasts four separate heating panels, targeting your back, waist, abdomen. It apparently takes just three seconds to properly heat up, meaning you won’t have to wait around in the cold for things to get more comfortable, and its battery will keep you warm for up to nine hours. Three heat settings allow you to customize the warmth without having to take off the jacket and add more layers.
It features carbon nanotube heating elements and 3M Thinsulate Insulation, so even when it’s off, the jacked stays warm, lightweight, and breathable. The jacket’s liner is infused with graphene, locking in warmth and ensuring that the heaters can do their best work, and it’s covered with pockets, so you can fit everything you need for a day on the resort (keep your phone warm, too?). Plus, you can apparently machine wash the Winter Defenders without harming it, and it’s perfectly fine to bring through TSA.
The Sailwind Winter Defenders can be yours for $189 on Kickstarter. You can also pick up their heated vest for $129, or the jacket and vest combo for $299. The rest of the Sailwind heated products are available over on their website.
