Breckenridge Sets New Shot-Ski World Record (1,377 Drinkers) https://unofficialnetworks.com/2023/12/11/shot-ski-world-record-1377/ Mon, 11 Dec 2023 16:35:05 +0000 https://unofficialnetworks.com/?p=15041430 Just about a year after setting it at 1,350 people, the town of Breckenridge and the people behind Breckenridge Distillery have returned to reclaim the record for the longest shot-ski in history. Just about a year after setting it at 1,350 people, the town of Breckenridge and the people behind Breckenridge Distillery have returned to reclaim the record for the longest shot-ski in history.

Since around 2013, the people of Breckenridge and the people of Park City have been in a heated competition to hold the record for the longest shot-ski ever. The first noted record was set by Breckenridge, with a 313-foot long shots and 113 people. The numbers have only been growing since then, making some substantial jumps to well over 1,000 people.

Park City set a previous record of ~1,360 back in October, but the people of Breckenridge just couldn’t let that slide. This past week, at Breckenridge’s 60th annual Ullr festival, 1,377 people and 495 skis combined to create a 2,469 foot shot-ski train, officially creating a new record.

The shot ski kicked off the 60th annual Ullr Fest, Breckenridge’s annual celebration of all things snow. Winter worshippers donning Viking helmets take over downtown Breckenridge with a rowdy parade and ski-town shenanigans to pay homage to Ullr – the Norse god of snow – in hopes that he will bless the town with a powder-filled ski season.” – Breckenridge Distillery

Assuming each individual on the shot-ski took a typical shot (1.5 fl. oz), and assuming my math is 100% correct, the people of Breckenridge simultaneously consumed a little more than 16 gallons of alcohol. That’s a lot of alcohol in one moment. That’s a little more than a half barrel keg in one split moment. I imagine the only time people consume more booze in one town in one moment is when the clock strikes midnight on New Years.

Congratulations to Breckenridge for setting this sweet record. Park City, we’ll be watching for your response!

Breckenridge move aside…there is a new boss in town when it comes to shot-skis. Congratulations to the Park City who just hosted their 7th annual Park City Sunrise Shot Ski event where 1,340+ people gathered on Main Street and downed a shot out of 2,900-foot-long ski. They not only broke the record for longest shot-ski, they also raised $50,000 for local charities.

ABC4 reports the event was put on by Park City Sunrise Rotary Club and High West Distillery. General admission tickets were $25 and included a spot on the shot ski and a token to enjoy a High West specialty drink at High West and a souvenir shot glass. Thats a pretty sweet deal.

Park City shouldn’t get too comfy with their distinction as Breck will no doubt try to break their record this December when the hold their own shot-ski event. Got to love an old school ski town rivalry.

If you think Red Bull and Monster are the first beverages to align themselves with daredevil sports…you’d be wrong.

Exhibit A: This 1979 commercial that aired on TV featuring everything from a kayaker shooting rapids in a hockey helmet to a skier throwing a 360 in a mogul field to a heavily mustached cowboy riding a bucking bronco and then tapping the Rockies. There’s been loads of beverage companies since that have co-opted rad activities to sell more product but Coors was the first. Taste The High Country:

“Did you know that 70% of wine’s carbon footprint comes from the glass bottles? Switching from glass to aluminum bottles that are made of 100% recycled material significantly reduces our carbon footprint. Join us in saying goodbye to single-use glass and embrace the aluminum!”

Let’s face it, canned wine is kinda synonymous with rot gut swill you buy at gas stations in a pinch, but there’s a new startup that is challenging that stereotype with a premium product that is far more sustainable than its counterparts in traditional glass bottles.

Here’s the deal, from the vine to your gullet there’s an inevitable carbon footprint that comes with wine production. What I hadn’t realized is 70% of that carbon footprint comes from glass bottles. Revelshine Wines recognized this outsized impact on sustainability and decided to make a high quality aluminum wine bottle that matches their high end wine. Interesting fact: every time aluminum is recycled, pound for pound, it saves 333 times the energy compared to glass.

The advantages of Revelshine’s aluminum bottles go beyond the obvious environmental benefits as they are impact resistant and resealable, making it an ideal option for those of us who need a bit more rugged vessel for our beverages of choice…think throwing a bottle in your pack before heading out for a day of skiing, hiking, mountain biking ect. Each twist top bottle of Revelshine holds 500ml of wine, the perfect amount to share with a couple friends at the top of a mountain after a long ski tour or banks of a river to commemorate a day of fly fishing.

The man behind the brand is Jake Bilbro, a 4th generation winemaker and grape grower from Sonoma. His bona fides in the wine industry are legit and so is his commitment to sustainable wine production. Revelshine has partnered with 1% for the Planet and has a stated goal to become the first wine company in the US to use 100% recycled aluminum, the gold standard in regards to carbon footprint reduction.

If you’re an environmentally minded wine connoisseur but don’t want to sacrifice on quality, I highly recommend picking up a bottle of Revelshine. They are keeping it simple for the time being with sparkling, rosé, white, and red (all of which I’ve tried and are confirmed dope). Revelshine is now on sale in California, Colorado, Idaho and Utah.

“Taking world-class wine off the dining table and into the wild.”Revelshine

If you’d like to learn more about Revelshine’s story listen to THIS PODCAST with founder Jake Bilbro who discusses all things canned wine and how he hopes to usher in a new era of sustainability in the industry.
