Next winter will mark the first new peak/terrain at Sunday River Resort in over twenty-five years, as Merrill Hill will feature a new Dopplemeyer fixed-grip triple that will service an expensive and expansive real estate community.

Trail cutting is well underway on the hill based around North Peak, which ledgy summit will be around 1914 feet. The five hundred-foot vertical foot lift will service three trails that have been cut and will be open to the general public as well as homebuyers. Snowmaking pipes are also being assembled near the base of the North Peak Quad for this new terrain. Second Thoughts, a trail that existed prior to this expansion, have been widened to accommodate new skiers. It is the first lift-serviced terrain expansion in New England since Green Peak opened at Waterville Valley during the 2016-17 season.

This terrain and real estate expansion is the first portion of the Sunday River 2030 plan. Their master plan over the next decade will include new fixed-grip and detachable chairlifts, an increased amount of summer attractions(like an observation tower and a mountain coaster), snowmaking expansion and improvements, lodge renovations, new restaurants, more condos, and an indoor/outdoor spa at the White Caps base. The Merrill Hill expansion appears to be Sunday River Resort’s only terrain-based expansion over the next decade.
