“We will be closed for the summer due to fire danger and limited staffing.”

For western ski resorts across North America, both wildfires and staff limitations are impacting nearly every mountain. It has even closed some mountains summer operations, including Baldy Mountain Resort in British Colombia and Ski Bluewood in Washington. Mt. Shasta Ski Park in McCloud, California is the latest resort to shut down its operations. Wildfires have been a major problem this summer in Northern California, as the closest wildfire currently to Mt. Shasta is the Lava wildfire located in the town next door: Weed (Not a typo). Plus, practically every business in the country can tell you right now that staffing shortages due to a variety of reasons are affecting their operations. With Mt. Shasta Ski Park being located in rural Northern California, these challenges are making the mountain focus on this upcoming winter instead.

For summer operations, Mt. Shasta features disc golf, mountain biking, scenic chairlifts rides, and various restaurants. During the winter, the mountain has thirty-two runs, five lifts(three chairlifts), night skiing on fourteen trails and two lifts, two terrain parks, and two hundred and seventy-five inches of naturals snowfall. Mt. Shasta Ski Park is planning to reopen for typical winter operations.
