After a banner opening day filled with fresh snow and smiling faces, Mount Bachelor Ski Resort in Oregon has suspended operations through Tuesday due to heavy rainfall. The decision was made to ensure the safety of the guests and employees and to preserve their existing snowpack for the rest of the season. Anyone with bookings for December 4th and December 5th will be automatically refunded.
Here’s the announcement from Mount Bachelor’s weather report page:
Sunday, December 3rd
5:00pm Update:
Heavy rainfall continued throughout the day today and is expected through Wednesday morning. In order to preserve our snowpack for the season ahead, we will be limiting all disturbances on the snow surface and suspending operations through Tuesday. We will assess conditions daily with the goal of reopening on Wednesday morning if possible.
Guests with bookings for Monday, December 4th and Tuesday, December 5th will be automatically refunded.
7:40am Update:
Snow turned to rain earlier and heavier than expected, and is forecasted to continue all day. For the safety of our employees and guests, we are suspending operations today, 12/3, due to heavy rain, flooding, standing water concerns, dangerous road conditions and to preserve our snowpack. Heavy rain during early season can be very detrimental to our snowpack – our team will be working to control the impact throughout the next 24+ hours. Continued rain is in the forecast tomorrow, we will assess conditions and adjust operations as needed tomorrow morning.
