Eight new snowplows are set to hit the Minnesota streets, each featuring a unique name decided upon through the Minnesota Department of Transportation’s “Name A Snowplow” contest back in early February.
According to CBS Minnesota, one snowplow, named “Blizzo” after Grammy Award-winning artist Lizzo, has already hit the streets and garnered some attention from the icon herself.
“Of all the awards I have received, this is by far the highest honor. To know that there is a snowplow with the name ‘Blizzo’ that is clearing the streets of the Twin Cities right now makes my heart melt – or freeze.” – Lizzo

Other names from the winners list include “Hans Snowlo“, “Clearopathtra“, and “Sleetwood Mac“. In total, 60 names were voted on, and 64,075 individuals casted their votes. The number one name, “Yer a Blizzard, Harry“, received 15,248. Other highlights from the list include “Sir Plows-a-Lot” (10th place), “Snow Force One” (14th place), and “Alice Scooper” (21st place).
The 2021-22 competition winners include “Betty Whiteout”, “Control Salt Delete”, and “The Big Leplowski”.
The votes are in! 🎉 More than 64,000 people voted and we’re excited to welcome eight new snowplow names to our fleet (including an homage to someone who just won Record of the Year *ahem* hi @lizzo!)
