“Knowing that the animal would surely perish if nothing was done, we decided to do our best to give it a fighting chance and try to dig it out.”

Just a couple of snowmobilers living up to the that Canadians are really really nice people. The following video comes from the Taylor’s Brook Road area of western Newfoundland where a group of snowmobilers stopped to observe 3 moose walking off in the distance. One of them appeared to fall out of sight and when they went to investigate, they discovered it had fallen into a deep treewell. Knowing full well that the moose stood little chance of surviving, they broke out there shovels and got to digging. The animal eventually emerged and trotted away seemingly unharmed. Nice save boys!

“Less passive. More Active. Standing up makes the ride more physical, more engaging, and a lot more fun. Lean into every curve and feel the rush right down to your toes. It takes the average rider about 15 minutes to get the hang of it.”

Interesting new development in the world of snow machines with this the world’s first standup snowmobile. The Widescape WS250 retails at $7,499 (shipping/handling included) and looks to be pretty fun way to enjoy the snow. Its a new product and they are just starting to ship in December 2023 so if you’re interested in picking one up you might have to be patient. Check out this test ride video and find full product details below:

ABOUT WIDESCAPE

Founded in 2018 and based in Saguenay, Canada, we are Widescape, creators of the first-ever stand-up snowmobile. We’re outdoor enthusiasts, wilderness wanderers, adventure seekers.

Our mission is to bring a more active, more accessible and more immersive outdoor experience to winter powersports. We build machines that float on snow to take you off the trails and into the unknown.

ABOUT WS250:

Compact, agile and ultra lightweight, the Widescape WS250 is a snowmobile like no other.  Always standing instead of sitting, riders enjoy an active,
immersive and totally new winter riding experience. The WS250 will challenge you physically and allow you to discover new anduncharted territories. With its impressive buoyancy and compact design, it’s the perfect vehicle to venture off the beaten path in search of fresh snow.

ENGINE

The WS250 is powered by our custom-built 242cc 4-stroke EFI engine with liquid cooling and was designed to be compact, reliable and fuel efficient.

Coupled with our continuously variable transmission, the result is an engine that offers a linear acceleration with strong torque at lower speeds, ideal for navigating through dense forests and riding deep snow.

TRANSMISSION

The WS250 is equipped with a continuously variable transmission made in Canada by CVTech-IBC®.

Built to be rugged and durable, it ensures a smooth and steady power output with a linear acceleration.

TRACK

Traction is provided by a scaled track, made in Canada by Soucy, a leading manufacturer of powersports components.

The track is 105 inches in length by 12 inches in width with 1.5 inch lugs, giving the ride optimal traction and control.

SKI

The WS250 is steered by a 12-inch single ski, purposefully designed by the engineers at Widescape and made in Canada. It is the same width as the track to ensure increased driveability and balance.

It is equipped with a single central keel and side runners for optimal grip and precise handling on all surface types.

COCKPIT

A thumb-operated throttle allows for ease of use and comfort and ensures a smooth and steady power output when riding in dense forests.

Thanks to spacers, the riser bar can be adjusted up to 30mm to meet the rider’s preffered height.

CLUSTER

The 4-inch digital display gives the rider all the info needed during a ride such as speed, engine temperature, low battery, check engine, low fuel indicator, engine run time, RPM and a clock.

RIDING PLATFORM

A non-slip traction mat ensures the rider’s feet are always securely in place on the driving platform.

The built-in grooves ensure that snow is easily cleared from the driving platform during the ride.

SUSPENSION

High-performance front and rear suspension ensure a smooth and comfortable riding experience in all types of terrain, thanks to the suspension’s 140 mm front and 100 mm rear travel.

BODYWORK AND CHASSIS

The WS250’s chassis and frame are made entirely of aluminum, which makes the vehicle very light yet robust. At 200 pounds, it’s the lightest snowmobile on the market.

The aluminum frame is wrapped in HDPE plastics, which are resistant to shock and cold, and finished up in a sleek and minimal design.

“Carnage vs The World”: Thirty Five Minutes Of Ski Carnage Glory https://unofficialnetworks.com/2023/11/08/carnage-vs-the-world/ Thu, 09 Nov 2023 02:05:07 +0000 https://unofficialnetworks.com/?p=15039799 One of my personal crews doing the whole ski film thing will always be Ski Carnage. One of my personal crews doing the whole ski film thing will always be Ski Carnage. They had a total of three videos on YouTube, each around 30-40 minutes long, filled with some dope lines, major wipeouts, and some pretty sweet snowmobiling. Much of their skiing is based out of Montana, watching the videos makes that pretty clear. They are not huge, they are not showy, they’re just dope.

Earlier today (November 8), Ski Carnage dropped their fourth, and potentially final, movie, Carnage vs The World, supported by Mo Pros, Bomb Snow Magazine, and ON3P. Like the three before it, it sits around 35 minutes long and covers some sweet terrain, gnarly runs, and killer tunes. This one includes some Japan skiing and other huge deep lines. You definitely won’t be disappointed (unless you hate cool things).

This one is for us not you.

So crack open a beer, stick this video on your television, and enjoy. Then watch their third, then their second, then their first movie. Or you can start with the first and make your way up. It doesn’t matter. The point is there’s about four hours worth of sweet skiing that you can, and definitely should, watch. Trust me, it’ll sooth your brain and get you hyped up for ski season.

Firing up the snowmobiles is rad way to celebrate Independence Day but communication is key when you got multiple sleds and dudes hitting jumps. Thankfully no one got seriously hurt in this collision but you can imagine the consequences could have been dire if the guy in the landing hadn’t been heads up and leapt outta the way.

How’d you like to own a Smart Car on skids? Well you’re going to need some patience because finding one of these 2004 Ski-Doo Elite 1.5L Side by Side Snowmobile ain’t as easy as walking into the dealership with a wad a cash.

Ski-Doo originally debuted the two-seater Elite model back in 1973 (pictured above) and continued to produce them until 1983. They billed them as the safest/smoothest way to get around on snow but had a hard time moving them because snowmobilers generally didn’t want a conservative experience out on the trails.

Ski-Doo gave it one last shot and reintroduced the side by side style machines in 2004 complete with airplane cockpit inspired steering wheels with heated grips and twin SC-3 rear slide suspension. Once again the cushy machines were met with a luke warm reception and were only made for one year. Pretty neat little machines, good luck finding one:

Joseph-Armand Bombardier is widely recognized as the inventor of the snowmobile. His creations as a teenager would develop and grow to eventually be the well known Ski-Doo snowmobiles, but he was hardly the only major figure in the technology’s development.

Carl Eliason‘s Motor Toboggan laid down the first tracks of modern snowmobiling in 1924. His invention, unlike Bombardier’s early work, included a forward-mounted 2-stroke engine, single track, and and ski steering, all of which we see today in the modern sled.

Without the Motor Toboggan, snowmobiles would surely look quite a bit different (and possibly much less significant as vehicles), and it’s a shame that Eliason isn’t highlighted more often.

Clever little film by Out of Service featuring characters inspired from South Park. Not sure if Matt and Trey signed off on this but I think they did it justice. No better way to show the passage of time than a montage…we’re gonna need a montage, MONTAGE:

The winner of the Whistler World Ski & Snowboard Festival’s Intersection video competition is set to go live on YouTube at 9am Pacific time on Thursday, April 27, and it looks pretty darn sick.

For those who don’t know, the Intersection competition gives five crews 12 days to create a 4-6 minute winter sports edit shot in British Columbia. That’s 12 days for filming and editing, so they’re really put on the clock.

This year, the crew behind the Out of Service snowboarding web series took first place with their snowboarder-snowmobiler rivalry South Park parody. There’s currently very little about the project available to the public, aside from a few clips posted to their Instagram, but it did win $10,000, so it’s gotta be pretty great.

I love seeing crews push their creativity through ski/snowboard edits and short films, so I’m very excited to see what this winds up looking like. Set your alarms people! Not too long before this is dropped!
